Blog Nov. 2
Sunday, Nov. 2 - SCRANTON, PA - My campaign took a road trip to see John
McCain.  Unfortunately for me, but good for Senator McCain, about 4800 people
filled the Long Center Building of University of Scranton. That is 1800 more people
than the 3000 that were expected.

Perhaps that bodes well for the McCain campaign in PA.

Earlier in the morning I attended County Clerk Rick Blythe's Election Brunch at the
Holdiay Inn Arena at 11AM.  That was when the doors opened in the hall at
Scranton.  I got there as fast as I could but it was too late.

I had very much wanted to see Senator McCain.  In 2000 I became a Registered
Republican just to vote for McCain in the NY Primary.  I had usually voted
Republican in most presidential elections beginning with Ronald Reagan but it was
not until 2000 and specifically for McCain, did I register officially as a Republican. I
have waited eight years to vote for this American hero.

While I believe Senator Barack Obama has done an outstanding job, has run an
exceptional campaign and I'm sure he will be president soon, now I would like to
see Senator McCain be rewarded for his long lifetime of public service and
self-sacrifice. Never in my lifetime has an individual so deserved to be President.

I felt a great deal of pride and was very honored when I saw my name on the
sample ballot for District 12 along side that of McCain and Obama.  I will frame that
ballot.

Interestingly, the first security person in Scranton I spoke with and explained my
situation to asked me if I knew George Phillips.  Talk about a small world!  It was
one of George's students and he wanted to know how he was doing.  I told him
George Phillips was running an outstanding campaign.

Someone at the event center gave me a ticket when I arrived but the security
guard would not allow anymore ticket holders in.  I spoke with a McCain campaign
worker and explained I was a Republican candidate who had driven down from
NYS to see McCain speak.  The campaign worker thought about it and said, "OK,
I'll get you in."  I was entering the building and a fire marshall/security person told
the campaign worker that NOBODY could get in. So out I went again.

I decided to sit in the park and watch the motorcade pull in.  There were no loud
speakers or closed-circuit TV to watch or hear the event.

I snapped a couple bad photos and drove back to Johnson City where I finished
the day campaigning up on Reynolds Road.

I was a beautiful day for a road trip and I was about 100 feet from Senator McCain
only an SUV separated us!
Unfortunately this is the best I could do, those small red & blue taillights in the
black SUV just left of the tree in the center are from the vehicle of Senator
McCain in his 20-car motorcade as he entered University of Scranton.  Left is the
ticket that would not be honored because the hall was overfilled.
