Blog Labor Day
Labor Day - Everyone in Binghamton took another hit today and Broome County
has one more thing to be concerned about. Effective today the water rates rose
again. This is part of the 81% increase in water rates under Matthew T. Ryan.
Don’t let them tell you it is because historically rates have not risen, either. Over
the last 7 years Binghamton rates have gone upon 127% compared to New York
City's 77% during the same period. Ryan raised rates more in 2 years than NYC in
7 years.
Worse, the payment and collection methods have been changed. If County
Executive Fiala was concerned about delinquent accounts before she and all
Broome County should be even more concerned now.
The City of Binghamton has basically given all 15,000 water accounts a $999
credit card. As long as an account has a payment made once every six months,
even a very small payment, there appears to be no minimum, it staves off shut
off and allows a balance to be carried on the account.
Water users will be able to carry balances for years before ever paying them off.
There will be more delinquent accounts not less. Ryan will have botched another
deal.
Broome County will be left to sort out yet another mess of his as he expects us to
do for fire & police.
To everyone working out there, Happy Labor Day, unfortunately we will all
have to work a little harder to pay another not-so-hidden tax........
I spent the entire afternoon going door-to-door in Sunrise Terrace. I have to
thank the people there for a warm welcome. It was a beautiful, sunny day and
many more people were home than I expected. We had time to talk and answer
questions. My task was made easier with a gracious endorsement from Town of
Dickinson Supervisor & Terrace resident, Mike Marinaccio. People in Sunrise
Terrace take pride in their neighborhood and with good reason. Since Mike has
been Supervisor there for 11 years he deserves a lot of credit.
I was able to get to half the homes today. If I didn't get to yours I will later this
week. Thank you.
